Natural foaming hand soap

I made my own hand soap! It was so easy and I'm smiling already thinking about all of the money I'm saving! I bought my Castille Soap from Sprouts, but they sell it at many natural foods or health stores. It was a little pricey (I can't believe I didn't have a coupon or wait for it to go on sale!), but I think it will save me a lot of money in the long run. Natural Deodorant!

Coconut Oil (I got mine on sale $5 off!)
Baking Soda
Corn Starch
Essential Oils (optional- I didn't use this b/c I didn't feel like spending money!)
Old deodorant container (not pictured)

I have to say I was very doubtful about this natural DIY project. I read somewhere that you should store your coconut oil in the fridge to preserve its freshness. This turned out to be a big mistake. I had a hard time mixing the coconut oil, and it just balled up into little clumps. Coconut oil turns hard and white in the fridge, and you need it to stay very soft for this project.

But once the Coconut Oil softened to the consistency I needed, it was much easier to work with. It actually ended up being the exact same texture as store-bought deodorant! It helps to get your hands a little messy while mixing everything together. You can use a spoon to initially mix all ingredients, but towards the end you're going to want to use your hands, especially while putting your deodorant into it's container.

I'm very satisfied with how this natural, mostly organic deodorant turned out. And the fact that I can make it for less than I would pay for store-bought deodorant makes me even happier!

Cinnamon, and other natural remedies

I was horrified the other morning to walk into my son's room and find ants crawling all over the floor! Not wanting to spray pesticides near any place that he plays, I got online to research natural remedies for getting rid of ants. Well, it turns out that cinnamon is a natural ant-deterrent! I found the point of entry in Gibson's room where the ants were invading, which was a crack in the threshold. I sprinkled the cinnamon along the crack, and the next morning, there were absolutely no ants in his room! The best part is that I didn't have to worry about Gibson touching or licking the cinnamon because it's completely harmless.

I'm filing this remedy away along with one of my other favorite natural remedies: honey. Did you know that honey is a natural anti-septic? I rub a little bit on every cut or scrape I get, and my boo boo's heal in no time!
